Uppercase Box & Owlcrate Box | February's Subscriptions Box

This month, I decided to try two different book subscription box; OwlCrate Box, and Uppercase Box. This is my second month as an OwlCrate subscriber and my first time as a Uppercase subscriber. Unlike OwlCrate, Uppercase doesn't have a theme for every month, so you can't expect what book or goodies that you will get. It's totally a mystery box. Uppercase also has two different types of boxes. One is an 'Expert Box' (23 USD) and 'Book Exclusive Plan' (13.99 USD). With the cheaper box, you won't get any goodies from what I understand. And, unfortunately at this time, Uppercase does not ship outside the US and Canada. So, without further ado, let's get down to business.

First, let's take a look at this month's OwlCrate Box. The theme was 'Run Away with the Circus'.

What I receive in February's OwlCrate Box:

  • A beautiful red tote bag inspired by Night Circus and created by Evie Bookish exclusively for OwlCrate. ( I wish I get the black tote bag tho)
  • Le Cirque des Reves candle from FrostBeard Studio. A blend of caramel popcorn, roasted chestnuts, and bonfire fragrances. (Ahhhhh, I'm so in love with this candle. I love scented candle and more collection for me)
  • Mini doughnut lip balm from Geek Fire Labs
  • An awesome little notepad made from recycled casino playing card from Attic Journals
  • Fun sticky page flags with circus themed from Girl of All Work
  • OwlCrate Circus theme pin
  • Caraval (Hardcover) by Stephanie Garber, which includes a signed bookplate, a beautifully designed quote card, a sneak peak of the audio book, and a letter from Stephanie.
I was so excited for Owlcrate to arrive, especially when they hinted that items from Evie Bookish and FrostBeard Studio would be included. And of course, I'm excited about the book as well as all the Owlcrate member know what book we will get this month. I may be a little bit disappointed with the Owlcrate Box last month, but this month I was very satisfied with it!

Now, on to Uppercase Box.

Technically, Uppercase isn't a subscription "box" because its contents are in this cute cloth bag, which is shipped in a USPS padded envelope. So, it's more of a subscription "bag". And here's what I received in February's Uppercase "Box":

  • A loose tea of Pride & Peppermint tea with bookmark from NovelTeaTins
  • A key necklace to 221B (Sherlock's apartment)
  • Valentine Card from Epic Reads
  • I <3 YA Laptop Sticker from Epic Reads
  • Bookmark of codes for special reading experience and exclusive content
  • By Your Side by Kasie West (Uppercase Hardcover Edition) - SIGNED
I really love their exclusive bag design for this month, perfect for Valentine's season. It's really cute! And, I love all the goodies that I get. The key necklace is adorable, and I love the tea (though, I'm not sure when I am going to drink it because I grow up drink with tea bag lol). Since February is the Month of Love, I was expecting the book will be a contemporary and romance book. And I love the fact that the book comes with signed on it. I have yet read any Kasie West's book, but I heard good things about her other book. I can't wait to dig into it and this book will be in my March TBR list :)

Conclusion:
All in all, both boxes were equally fun to get and exciting to open. With OwlCrate, the price seem to be fair for all to get especially if you are really into all the great goodies, while Uppercase more to the book. Well, it's a toss up! I can't choose which box I want to continue to subscribe. I di enjoy the boxes enough to give it another shot lol. So, next month, it looks like I will be trying out both boxes again before I make a final decision about which one to continue subscribing to.

Which ones do you like best? Let me know what you think! :)

When was the last time I read a book? Probably, 4 years ago? Hmm, I can't remember the last time I read an English book for fun, but I remember I read tons of Malay's book after SPM back then when I lived in Dubai with my parents before they moved here in Houston. But lately, I've been getting engrossed in books again, and I've found myself drawn to the bookstores online. I went a little out of control with this book haul, so this is going to be a doozy. Have you read any of these books? Which one should I read first out of these books? What are you currently reading?

JANUARY 2017 ROUND UP

Welcome to my January Round Up post! It's time for the first wrap up of 2017! January has flown by. I can't believe how fast this month has gone by. I had the intention of trying to blog 2 - 3 times a week and that apparently has not happened lol. Anyway, without further due, let's get started with January's recap.

MOVIE

A Monster Calls - I have a mixed feeling about this film at first and end up this is by far one of my all time favorite movie. I watched this movie twice. I don't really get the message at first because I was expecting a horror, creepy story or like other monster's movie (Stranger Things, etc.) and that isn't what I got. It's about a young boy deals with his mother's illness by escaping into a fantasy world. This movie is a tearjerker, but it is so meaningful. ❤❤❤❤❤

Moana - Watched this movie at the same day. I love everything about this movie. The characters, well-written songs, the mix of humor and heart without feeling manipulated. Everything. It was FUN-TASTIC! For those who haven't this Disney movie, please do watch it. ❤❤❤❤❤

HAUL

I don't remember what else I bought this month, but I'm sure I bought all these books except the small and big box of Book Outlet because I bought it in December. And I'll write a separate post for these book hauls.

MUSIC

I'M OBSESSED WITH ALL THE GOBLIN K-DRAMA OST AND THEIR BACKGROUND MUSIC. ALL OF THEM, SERIOUSLY. I've never been so obsessed like this before.

READING

I manage to read three books for this month, and I only finished reading one book (Shadow Falls). I was doing well at the early month that I finished the book for three days. So, I thought I could read 4 - 5 books per month and guess that I'm wrong. The second book (Six of Crows) that I read is nowhere halfway lol, and I just started read The Third Twin last weekend. I don't know how others can read 5 - 10 books per month. Again, do you guys even sleep (Especially, you two, Fatina and Eyqa).

PERSONAL LIFE

Face - Do you know that feeling when you look up in the mirror and see the acne scars on your face fading away? That moment when you thought you were done with the acne's problem. And then, few days after that, pimples pop up here and there. That's what happen to my face lately. Not that kind of pimples you got every month, it's even worse. Severe acne. This usually happened when I missed my period or because of the allergies (seafood, dust). I missed my period for almost two months, and there's construction at my office, so 2 in 1 huh.

Hair - I colored my hair last Saturday!(Yay, 1 wishlist checked) My hair color before kind of purple, brown red-ish color. Then now, my hair is ombre blonde (?). Not sure if I like my hair color now or maybe I just still not used to this color since this is my first time dyed my hair with blonde. I admit that I look weird.

Weather - For God sake weather, could just make up your mind? Houston weather is crazy. It can be 23 Celcius today and the next day 1 Celsius and windy as well. Sometimes, they alternate within the same day. This weather makes me sick!

HOW'S MY 2017 RESOLUTIONS GOING?

Saving Money - Oh Lord, as usual, I spent money on things that I don't really need. What is saving money, anyway?

Drink Water - I don't drink much water, but I drink more than before. Lol, this is one of the reasons why my acne scarring is still there.

Drive Safe - I'm in progress to be a good driver now which is good (obviously) And good news for me that I don't need to read the Handbook Driver's Lesson anymore because I took the 6 hours driver's lesson with the written test online. The only thing I need to do is go to the DPS and apply for the Texas Driving Licence and take the driving test.

Be Early - Hah. I am still late for everything. Sleep late, wake up late and went to work late. In fact, it's getting worse. I NEED HELP!

Other than I mentioned above, everything is going well. My January has been a good start, I guess.  It's had its ups and downs, but I'm hoping for a better February.

That's it!  Thanks for reading and hope everyone is having a wonderful January. heart

MY BUCKET LIST 2017

I just stumbled upon Erin's latest blog post about the type of posts she always read and found out this one interesting topic that can help me to update my blog. WISHLIST. I love reading everyone else's and would always say things like, "Oh, that's on my bucket list!". I have had a bucket list in my mind, but for one reason my list was never actually written out because my list might be mean nothing to someone else. So this is my first wishlist. Now, without further do, here is my bucket list.

1. Move into an apartment
I've been saving to get my own place for a few months now. I am a long way from my target and am not entirely sure I will ever be able to afford to rent a decent apartment. There's an apartment that I really like which is just a few block from my parent's house but damn why is it so expensive T.T Price range for 2 bedrooms 1 1/2 bathroom is $1,1225 - $1,275 per month. I'm waiting for any top deals like 2 months free or move in specials. While waiting for that, I'm saving my money because for sure I'm going to move out next year (sooner or later) :)

2.Own a Laptop -  MacBook Pro / MacBook Air
I've been eyeing this laptop for a few months now. I spent more than 9 hours a day in front of desktop and thought that I need a laptop. We do have a desktop at home (in my bedroom to be exact) but I ain't gonna spend my time, stuck in front of desktop in the room all the time. Since MacBook is goddam expensive and I need to save money, I might consider paying monthly. But I'm kind of confused which MacBook should I get. Any suggestion?

3. Driving License
It identifies you as a licensed driver. Who wants to get arrested for driving without a valid license? If I get pulled over by a police officer or state trooper, the first thing that he or she will ask for is driver's license. But what can I do, I don't have time to go to Texas Driver License.

4. Travel / Vacation
I haven't traveled since 2013 till now. I really love to travel, and it's my dream to travel around the world. Well, who doesn't right? For my first vacation without parents, I think travel to South Korea is a good start for me. Sooo, I'm really counting on traveling next year in April or May with my sister. Or alone if she can't make it. I would love to go on a vacation with friends but I everyone is busy. Is there anyone want to be my travel partner?

5. Color my hair
I cannot stand having the same hairstyle or hair color, but I won't make a sudden change. I've been thinking to dye my hair again, but I keep on reminding myself that I just colored my hair in Malaysia and paid RM600 for it. I kinda miss my old light brown hair and might go for it this end of the year.

6. Blogging
- Making sure blog is always up-to-date
- Meet a blogging friend in real life

There's a lot more I want to list, but it will never be ending wishlist. There you go my short term wishlist. What is on your bucket list?

Malaysia Trip | October Wrap Up

Whew, it's already November huh. Halloween is over; next will be Thanksgiving and CHRISTMAS and then New Year's Eve. Almost at the end of the year 2016. How time flies so fast. A lot of things happen during this month and some of you might already know that I just back from Malaysia two weeks ago. I didn't have a chance to update my blog while I'm in Malaysia because I was so busy. So, today I'm going to post about my short vacation wrap up or 'October Wrap Up'. I know it's sort of late but better late than never, right?

FLIGHTS

Ohh, I'm sick with the plane right now. Not only because of the long flights but had to fly numerous times on the flight. From Houston to Kuala Lumpur itself took 20 hours and 40 minutes with layover 3 and half an hour in Taipei. The next day after arrival in Kuala Lumpur, I need to fly to Sandakan for almost 3 hours for my convocation. Two nights after that, flight to Kota Kinabalu and drive straight back to my hometown. After a week in the Kampong, flight back to Kuala Lumpur and spend five days before the long flight back to Houston. Approximately, I have been on the plane for seven times withing two weeks. No more flying after this because being inside the plane for a long time is not fun at all. Well, at least not for this year.

A WEEK IN SABAH

1. CONVOCATION IN SANDAKAN

The convocation was held at Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan on 8th of November, and we had to be there the day before. On Friday, we came a bit late for my convocation's registration at the hotel because the registration was started at 9 am. As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we checked in and then go to the registration desk and try my robe. And come back at 2 pm for convocation's rehearsal. That's when the jetlag hit me. I'm so tired and sleepy, like super tired and extremely sleepy. I've been caught fall asleep for a few times by my friends and other students. The day of my convocation, I felt bored for the entire time of the ceremony which is I don't know why. I'm not excited at all, and I was a bit grumpy. Whoever handled that event, it was so un-organize. I feel like, if I can turn back time, I wouldn't come ( or I'm expecting too much maybe?).

2. HOMETOWN (KOTA MARUDU)

I was so excited that after almost a year been away, I finally get back to my hometown and spend time with my family (especially my grandparent that I miss the most) and some of my friend. When I was in my hometown, I never stayed at home during the day and only back home when it's almost midnight, to sleep. Since my grandma was so clingy, that she always sticks with me even thou I wanted to hang out with my friends, we made a deal. During the day I'll spend time with her and other families (means I'll be her driver) and at night with my only friends. It was tiring, to be honest. I woke up early in the morning at 5 am, went out for the whole day and home when it's evening. Then, going out again to meet up with friends and home before midnight. And mind that I'm still jetlagged at the time and tried so hard to hold my sleepiness. Despite tiredness, I enjoyed every second I'm with them.

A WEEK IN KUALA LUMPUR

As soon as we arrived in KL, we dropped our luggage at home then mom took us out for late lunch. Because it's already late for lunch and we didn't have breakfast on the plane, I ate two sets of ayam penyet (talking about ayam penyet, I'm craving for it now). We thought that we'd get some rest or a lazy day. Guess I'm wrong. It was as busy as I am in Sabah, but at least I get to wake up late in KL. Almost every day I went out with my friends, and I'm happy that they're willing to spend their time with me while they were busy with their assignments.

FOODS

I didn't get to eat all the food on my list because I'm so busy spending my time with my family and friends. But I did get to eat some fruits (especially MANGGA) and some of my favorite food as shown above ( I forgot to snap all the food because you know when the foods in front of you and the only thing you want to do is EAT). And hell yeah, we brought lots of food all the way from Malaysia to Houston especially the ikan masin, ikan bilis, kicap cap kipas udang etc. I think for those who lived aboard can relate to this.

JETLAG

Compared from Houston to Malaysia and from Malaysia to Houston, I think jet lag is tougher when I'm back from Malaysia. Anyone who has crossed multiple time zones knows the misery of the jet lag. You're tired when you need to be alert, you can't sleep when supposed to. I almost fall asleep when I'm driving home (I did for a few seconds and realized that I'm driving at the center of the lane). As soon I'm home, I straightly went to my bed to sleep and woke up at midnight, and looking for food. I didn't sleep till morning and went to work after that. Suprisingly, I feel so energetic even thou I didn't sleep at night and get sleepy when it's 3 pm. Anyway, I'm getting better now and the good thing is I go to sleep early every night :)

Here  you go te summary of  my October Wrap up!

First Day of Summer 2016

Hi, guys!

Just a quick update! I realized that I rarely update my blog recently. It's not because I'm a busy person. Well to be honest, I do have plenty time to update my blog but y'know, writer's block. I'd love to write but I never have ideas that stand out to me as something that I'd like to write and I'm so not good with words. It's making me really frustrated and makes me feel like I should quit writing. Okay, that's that. Let's proceed to main topic.

So today is the first official day of summer, also known as the Summer Solstice. Yep, summer's finally here! HAPPY  LONGEST AMOUNT OF DAYLIGHT DAY! Thanks to Facebook for letting me know about this. But I'm still confused though because some websites say tomorrow, June 21st is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. The official date of the first day of summer varies depending on the country's climate I guess.

Don't get confused with the "Longest day of the year". The day is still 24 hours, it's the hours of daylight that are the longest. Almost 15 hours of daylight. That's what I read from other websites.
The sun rises at 6:13 a.m. here on the summer solstice and sets at 9:08 p.m. That's 14 hours and 55 minutes of daylight to enjoy! - source
It's hot and humid here and I feels like I'm in Malaysia right now. Is Houston hotter than Malaysia? I don't know which is hotter but I can tell you it's REALLy hot here. At least, in Malaysia, it's not that hot and humid in the morning. The highest temperature can be reached for now up to 107 Fahrenheit.
That's what I've heard.

Other than humidity and hot weather, people loves summer because SUMMER MEANS VACATION!
Traveling and explore new places and relaxing in the pool on a floating lounge chair enjoying cold lemonade.
It's time to take all the sundresses out, sandals, sunglasses, short pants etc. Getting the tanned skin. Well, I don't need a tanned skin because I already had a tanned skin haha. Anyway, I'll be inside of the building most of the time though.

It's a beautiful day isn't :)

It's 08:43 PM

PS: I've been thinking about my blog's name. Miss Young Lady kind of childish for me right now, so I wanted to change it but I still don't have ideas yet. Hmmmm

ROOM TOUR 2016

Today I decided to do a "Room Tour". Actually, I planned to write about this before the "What's on My Bedroom Bedside Table" post but when I look around my bedroom, goshh my mom is going to be mad if she sees my bedroom. Then last 2 days I manage to clean up my room and took some pictures. Doing this post was a great motivator to tidy my room and seeing all this clear spacer is a relief.

So, welcome to my life! This is the view when you first walk into the space. Without further due, let's get started.

Here we have a shot of my bed. I have 9 pillows; 3 red pillows at the back, 2 white pillows in the middle, 2 white with floral prints pillow and two small pillows with red and white color. Red duvet with the quilt (?) at the end of the bed. I always have an issues with my bed when I'm running late, too much works to tidy this bed (Ya'll feel me?). Above my bed, there are speakers with random picture in the middle and those aren't real by the way. Next to the bedside table on the right side, there's a chair with a turtle (bought it from Sabah). And bedside table one the left, nothing much on that table, I barely use it because I usually sleep on the right side ( I never sleep on the left side by the way).

There's a roses in a floral vase and it's fake roses too. Two chairs with small table next to the window. It's kind of my relaxed section. Sometimes during those long sleepless night and I just sit there and stare out to the window. Kidding XD It's just for decoration purpose. A single sofa on the left and again, decoration purpose. Hmmm to many chairs in my room and I never use them.

Here's a closer look. As you can see, I never sit around here. I put my towels on the chair, easy for me to grab it . Other chair, I put Ten Commandments Poster. Those box and hand luggage, I should put them in the attic.

All my bag on this sofa. The white bag is not mine actually. Borrowed it from my mom but I never give it back to her XD (I'll give you back someday mom) On the top of the sofa, a cowboy hat (?), company cap I guess and neck massagers ( Christmas gift from my mom).

And there is my two door wardrobe. On top of the shelf, I put all my jeans, pants, T- shirt, sweaters and pajamas. All my dresses, working clothes and "go-to clothes", jackets and blazers on hanging clothes. I actually already take out half of my clothes and store in the attic yet my clothes still about to burst. Underneath the hanging clothes, I put my all my shoes, boots and heels :)

At the other side of my room, I have my stand mirror and dressing table where I put all my beauty products. Underneath of the dressing table has my hair stuff like a straightener, hair dryers and curling irons.

Those are my beauty stuff that I rarely used but I keep buying them. On top of chest are my skincare products, lotions, hair spray, perfume, lip balms that I just bought three days ago and my mom's mirror hehehe. Drawer to the left there's my watch, clips and whatnot.  Drawer to the right, my lipsticks, lip glosses, lip tint and lip balms. On top of that, there a stand for my hair ties, bracelets and hair bands. Last drawers, there are makeup tools on the left; mascaras, eyeliners, brow liners and powders on the middle; eyeshadow palettes and blusher on the right :)

There you go! My little bedroom. :)

Hari Gawai Celebration 2016

Having such an awesome time celebrating Gawai last night at Auntie Magdelene's house. Since I'm too far away from my hometown so I couldn't celebrate both Gawai and Kaamatan Festivals (I'm mix Iban and Dusun so I celebrate both festivals) with my big family and friends in Malaysia. Here, we only celebrate Gawai because most of my mom's friends are from Sarawak and we just celebrate with makan-makan.

Foods everywhere :'D
Gawai beauties !

That's it! Kotobian Tadau Tagazo do Kaamatan and Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai ! :)
