Historic Flashflood Houston

Some of my friends told me that Malaysia is currently burning hot, 30 - 35 degrees Celsius is it? Well, while in Houston is in the midst of an unbelievable deluge since Sunday evening. It started to rain on Sunday evening after I'm home from Asian Market. At first, I did not expect that the weather gets worse because I thought it's just a normal heavy rain.
The safety alarm system beeping after power outage and that time I'm home alone with my sister. It's really freaks me out because it sounds like someone tried to break into my house which is not actually. So I decided to sleep with my sister and fall asleep to the sound of the rain beating hard upon the roof, thought it's going to stop raining soon. I sleep early than usual that time since it's Sunday night because I have to wake up early the next day and go to work.

I was sleeping until I heard my phone's ringing, it's Emergency Alert Flash Flood Warning. 4:20 in the morning! Yep, it's still raining and getting worse. I tried to sleep but I was frightened of thunderstorms and it's kind of hot, thought that my sister switched off the fan which is not. Blackout again. While I'm trying to back to sleep, my phone been screaming every 20 minutes due to multiple flash flood warning and I got texts from office mate told me to not drive in the rain and just stay home because storm was very severe, it may flood and it's very dangerous. Means no need for me to go to work that day. I manage to sleep at 5:30 am.

Suddenly my phone rings again. It's my mom, she called me from Malaysia, told me to stay safe at home and don't go anywhere because it's flooding outside. Then more phone calls to come from the office mates and my mom's friends to check me out. Emergency alert keeps ringing too. I wasn't happy that I couldn't back to sleep yet I understand that they just worried about us. Around 7 o'clock finally I get to sleep and woke up at almost 11 o'clock because it's too damn hot and I'm sweating too much. It's still raining and power's out. I checked the breaker box to see if all the switches are all turn to on and everything does seem to on. I'm a bit curious is it my house only or other neighbors power out too. So I went to one of my neighbors house and asked them about electricity and yes there's no electricity since 1 am.

To be honest, it's nice to not needing to work but it's definitely not fun staying at home without electricity for whole day. What's makes me pissed off, I can't even get morning breakfast because it's really feels good to have a hot chocolate with cold weather. And I can't cook anything too because our stove is an electric stove. Luckily we have some food that me and my sister cooked the night before. So, for the whole day, we just sleeping, doing nothing and read news from internet since we can't watch news on TV. Stay safe at home they said, but how about all the homeless people? Do they have any place to stay, it's raining cold and flooding outside hmmm :( Around 7pm, one of mommy's friend pick us up and spent 2 nights with them.


From what I read on news, the National Weather Services has called Monday's flooding 'historic' that Monday's rainfall total at George Bush Airport was 9.92 inches, Houston's second rainiest day on record, next to on June 26, 1989 (10.34 inches) during Tropical Storm Allison. Data from the NWS previously indicated a higher total, which would have been Houston's rainiest day on record.


Storms have dumped more than a foot of rain, received up to 16 inches of rain in the 24 hours through Monday morning. Flooding dozens of neighborhoods and forcing the closure of city offices and the suspension of public transit in the Houston area. Classes have been canceled for the Houston Independent School District' and more than 470 flights have been canceled in Houston. It's a life-threatening emergency they said. A lot of roads and highways are impassable and more rain to come for 3 days.



My usual way to work closed and may be under water for 4 - 6 weeks according to the news.

Guess I'll just stay home till my stepdad back from overseas business next week.
